Description

In the center of the image is the galaxy M 106, also known as NGC 4258. It is about 23 million light-years away and is 13 billion years old. The galaxy contains 400 billion stars. At the top of the image, the two galaxies NGC 4226 and 4217 (constellation Canes Venatici ) can be seen in the northern sky. The distance of NGC 4226 is estimated to be 333 million light-years from the Milky Way, more than 100 times the distance to Andromeda Galaxy M 31. The diameter of NGC 4226 is about 120,000 light-years.Together with NGC 4217 it forms the optical galaxy pair Holm 354.(Source: including Wikipedia)
